Saturday, October 7, 2017. 11 am-2 am.
Fundraising event at the Chicago Athletic Association hotel.
12 S Michigan Ave, Chicago, IL 60603
On Saturday, October 7, from 11 am until 2 am (October 8), please join MAS Context and Land and Sea Dept. on the second floor of the Chicago Athletic Association hotel to raise money for the relief efforts in Mexico and Puerto Rico. Land and Sea Dept. is creating a special menu of cocktails available all day in the Drawing Room and Game Room — 100% of proceeds from these cocktails, beer, and wine will be donated to two disaster relief charities. At 5 pm, Mexico City based architect Michel Rojkind will be talking about rebuilding the city following the earthquake in the Drawing Room.
In the last few weeks, Mexico and Puerto Rico have suffered major natural disasters. On September 19, on the 32nd anniversary of the devastating 1985 earthquake, a 7.1 magnitude earthquake killed 325 people in Mexico (as of September 25) and injured thousands more. Meanwhile, a few days after suffering the effects of Hurricane Irma, Puerto Rico was directly hit by Hurricane Maria, leaving the entire island without power and communications. On top of that, the Guajataca Dam has also suffered a critical infrastructure failure that could directly affect 70,000 people.
To help raise funds, MAS Context is collaborating with Land and Sea Dept. and Mexican architect Michel Rojkind, who will be in attendance, to organize this event. Michel has been aiding in the recovery efforts in Mexico City and he will be able to share a firsthand experience of the situation. 100% of the proceeds will be donated to the two organizations below:
Diego Luna + Gael García Bernal + Ambulante
Puerto Rico Real-Time Recovery Fund
If you can’t attend the event but you would like to support this important effort, you can make a donation on our support page. Please, indicate in your donation that funds are for the “Mexico and Puerto Rico Fundraising.” We’ll collect all donations until Sunday, October 15.
We are extremely thankful to Land and Sea Dept. and the generous sponsors: Heaven Hill, Fever-Tree, Testa Produce, Just Ice, Maison Ferrand and Plantation.
