Lecture by Geoff Manaugh and Nicola Twilley June 3, 2013
We are thrilled to announce that MAS Context is presenting a lecture by Geoff Manaugh and Nicola Twilley in Chicago on Monday, June 3rd at Public Works.
The lecture, titled “Mines, Fruit, and Military Bases: A Year on the Road with Venue,” will discuss the ongoing research that Geoff and Nicola are developing together. They have been traveling since June 2012 as Venue, visiting sites and interviewing people whose work in some way illustrates the human relationship with built, natural, and virtual landscapes. Venue is co-produced by the Nevada Museum of Art and Studio-X NYC, and supported by WESTAF.
Geoff Manaugh is the author of BLDGBLOG and The BLDGBLOG Book, former senior editor of Dwell magazine, and co-director of Studio-X NYC, an off-campus event space and urban futures think tank run by the architecture department at Columbia University. In September 2013, he will join the tech blog Gizmodo as editor-in-chief.
Nicola Twilley is co-director of Studio-X NYC, author of the blog Edible Geography, and an independent curator with exhibitions at New York’s Storefront for Art and Architecture and the Center for Land Use Interpretation in Los Angeles. She is currently writing a book on the spatial history and technological future of refrigeration.
The event will be hosted by Public Works. Founded in 2009 by branding and design studio Someoddpilot, Public Works is a contemporary art gallery presenting work that transcends the ubiquitous art and design dialectic. Located in the heart of Wicker Park, the gallery continues to exhibit both local and international emerging artists. For more information about Public Works, please visit www.publicworksgallery.com.
