Fundraising for Mexico and Puerto Rico
On Friday, October 6, and Saturday, October 7, 2017 MAS Context organized two events to raise funds for the relief efforts in Mexico and Puerto Rico. The events were organized in collaboration with architect Michel Rojkind, Hopewell Brewing Co., and Land and Sea Dept.
In the last few weeks, Mexico and Puerto Rico have suffered major natural disasters. On September 19, on the 32nd anniversary of the devastating 1985 earthquake, a 7.1 magnitude earthquake killed 325 people in Mexico (as of September 25) and injured thousands more. Meanwhile, a few days after suffering the effects of Hurricane Irma, Puerto Rico was directly hit by Hurricane Maria, leaving the entire island without power and communications. On top of that, the Guajataca Dam has also suffered a critical infrastructure failure that could directly affect 70,000 people.
To help raise funds, MAS Context collaborated with Mexican architect Michel Rojkind, Hopewell Brewing Co., and Land and Sea Dept. Michel, who has been aiding in the recovery efforts in Mexico City shared a firsthand experience of the situation. With the proceeds from purchases during the weekend as well as private donations, sales of books by Rojkind Arquitectos, and produce donated by Sobremesa Supper Club, we were able to raise $3,286.26. The amount was donated to the two organizations below:
Diego Luna + Gael García Bernal + Ambulante
Puerto Rico Real-Time Recovery Fund
We are extremely thankful to Michel Rojkind, Hopewell Brewing Co., Land and Sea Dept. and their generous sponsors (Heaven Hill, Fever-Tree, Testa Produce, Just Ice, Maison Ferrand and Plantation), Sobremesa Supper Club, and all of you who attended and donated during the events.
